Rain–Finally!!

Yippee!!! We had to nice rain storms come through today and I think it rained a little last night while I was working. The yard/plants/trees should all be happy.

I finished the stitchery I had completed the other day into a pillow. I sat in my window seat stuffing and watching the storm from my quilt room. I love rain storms (as long as they cause no damage).

Stitching

My husband had a great idea to put a little pocket on it with some stained clothes pins, Isn’t it the cutest!! I used 30’s fabrics and sprayed them with Walnut Ink. You can’t really tell from the pictures, as they came out pretty bright. It is a pretty big pillow, I guess it is about 15 inches square.

005

I also sprayed the back of the pillow to give it the aged look.

002

I have some great news also regarding my Allstar Alice. Her coach let me know that the town is awarding her team with the “Sportsmanship Award” trophy and it will be on display with their picture at the Community Center. I wish she could have been at the ceremony tonight to get the trophy but she is at the beach. She is going to be so excited!

Little Louise had an emergency today. For some reason she decided to go behind the dresser. Her sister Thelma use to do that all the time. Thelma was a little bigger than Louise so she could not really go underneath the dresser, but Louise can. But she also figured out once she gets under there she can’t get out. We have an ancient television that sits on top of the dresser, I had to lift the entire thing and get her to crawl out. She was so scared she didn’t want to move so I had to lift and try to bang the dresser with my knee to get her to move. I am hoping she learned her lesson.

006

Well off to the sewing room!! Have a great night and I hope you were able to find a little stitching time today!

No crafting, just softball!

Alice spent a long day Saturday playing three softball games. The weather cooperated in the morning with only a very humid close to 90 degree high but as soon as the clouds dispersed the heat was on. It was a tough day for the girls.

013

They played a team from Warren County NC their first game and lost 15 to 5.  The team was “interesting", very high strung coaches constantly yelling at their players (not coaching). Kept “forgetting” their lineup and were definitely somehow squeezed into the younger age bracket. There second game, they won by just as high a margin as they lost the first. Which meant another game. We were assuming they would play a different team but no, they had to face the first team they played again. The girls were scared, hot and tired. The other team had just come off a 2 hour break while Alice’s team was just coming off their second game.

012

Alice’s team gave them a run for their money. The other team, I should say their coaches, continued cheating. Changing their line up and getting caught by the judges/umpires three different times. Delaying the game on many occasions and yelling and upsetting the girls. Their coach actually even yelled out for all to hear “Get out their and beat them to death.” At one point Alice was up at bat and the male coach was screaming about something while another coach tried to calm him down, on the field in front of their dugout. Poor little Alice was so scared of him she was too busy watching him and not paying attention to the ball. We all thought the coach would be reprimanded or something, no luck. Later on the director had to watch the last half of the game because they were getting so ugly. The girls kept the score tied for some time and then moved ahead 2 runs. The umpire could have called the game then because of the time limit, I guess they are supposed to after an hour, I think it is, but they did not.

The other team got up to bat and they were up to their tricks again. Changing their line ups, delaying, delaying. I think they were doing this because they knew our players were worn out. The entire park seemed to be watching this game, my husband and I turned around at one point and everyone, including other teams were watching the game. The crowd had moved closer to the fence and it seemed everyone was on their feet. It was very tense. The other team scored 4 runs and started arguing about some calls and the director and umpire called the game. It was awful. The girls were fighting back their tears, some loosing their fights very quickly. They did the handshake with the other team and then they broke. It was the saddest event poor little Alice had ever gone through.  To loose because of poor sportsmanship and cheating. Not a lesson I wanted Alice to learn, at least not on her first go around.

008

I am so impressed with the girls though. They played an unbelievably awesome game. They put up a great fight and they played fair and played for each other. I tell you I wish I had a video of the game, it was so impressive to watch those girls play.

I know a lot of parents think games should be protested so their kids can win. I am not concerned about the win, the treatment of our team and their own players should have been enough to get them tossed and it was sad to see a playoff with so many rules leave out that most important one. They too, should be ashamed they allowed that to happen.

017

After the game, Alice kept asking about a little girl she saw on the other team crying. She woke up at 12:30 last night and asked about her again. She wondered if the little girl was okay and wanted to know that she wasn’t scared and still crying. Alice never seemed upset about loosing the game, just the player who was crying. That is my Ali-Bear, I love that kid!

Oh Just Rain!!!

We have been fooled into thinking it is going to rain here almost everyday. We change our plans because it starts thundering and lightening and getting windy and cloudy. Then as soon as we go inside, it clears up or just scoots right over us. I wish Mother Nature would just stop playing with us and give us a nice rain.

I took an opportunity to straighten out my pie safe that has all of my muslin, quilted cotton, linen and other stitchery fabrics. I got it so clean and straight I was able to put my chenille's and some other fabrics in it. I was so proud when I finished.

017

I finished up a stitchery last night that was adapted from a Colonial Pattern. I am going to piece some fabric to border it (hopefully  tonight) and then turn it into a pillow of course.

003

The kids have only been out of school for two weeks and as you can see from this picture of Natalie boredom has already set in.

002

We just returned from Alice’s softball practice. Her All Star game is this weekend. I am new to this sports stuff and I did not realize that this entailed an approximately eight hour day of games.  Eight hours in above 90 degree weather, this is why I never did sports, well, probably not the only reason. She is excited, so I am excited for her, but I have to say if she were to get unexcited, I probably wouldn’t complain too much.

Well it is time to get my walking in. I hope everyone has a great night! Don’t forget to get a little stitching time in!

More Americana

I finished up some little stitchery pillows last night. I wish I would have done more of the little ones and may still do some more. They will make cute bowl fillers. The fabric in the back ground is the fabric on the back of the pillow. Pattern for stitcheries by Buttermilk Basin.

009010

And I finished up a pillow with a stitchery pillow from Primitive Blessings, you know I do a lot of her designs. The flag fabric in the background is also the fabric on the back of the pillow.

005

I have lots to do today so I am off. I hope you guys have a great day and find a chance to enjoy a little stitching time!

Americana Pin Cushions

I went to Target several weeks back and bought some bowls they had with stars and stripes on them. I knew I wanted to make pincushions with them as soon as I laid my eyes on them. So last night that is just what I did. They are a nice big, but not too big size and they are not primitive but I do think they are very cute and they were fun to make.

019

The first one has a State Fair theme. It is my favorite of course because it has a pig on it.

006

The next one has a nautical theme.

013

And the final one has a simple Uncle Sam theme.

003

Gordon’s tomato plant finally has a tomato on it, you can see it in the center of the picture. He loves tomato plants and has had one every year now for some time. As you can see he is very happy and proud of Mr. Tomato!

074

We had what looked like a huge storm come through but ended up only being a lot of wind and very little rain. I think it only really sprinkled for about ten minutes or so.  We are in desperate need of rain here. I think I have mentioned before it will rain every where around us, even up the street but not in our neighborhood. Very frustrating.

072

I tried to get pictures of the clouds because they looked so cool. I am not sure if you can tell from this picture how bad the wind was blowing but it was pretty hard.

We lost a lot of branches but we usually do when it is windy because we have a lot of trees in the yard. We had one actually hit the house this time. It is amazing we haven’t before because many of the trees and very old and taller than our house.  You can see in this picture how big the trees are.

065

Luckily, the branch was quite small and did not cause any damage.

037

I hope everyone is having a great day and treating those Father’s in your life like Kings today. Be sure to make a little stitching time for yourself also!!

Still being Busy!!

We have been enjoying the summer here. The kids just finished up C4 Music Camp at Campbell University and had their concert Friday night. It was fantastic! Alice is busy with softball practice every other day. I am not finding much sewing time, but that is okay. We have been going to the pool and walking still every night. Slowly but surely the weight is coming off, I finally made it to where I was last year at this time, if I can keep dropping 10 pounds every 3 weeks I will be in good shape in no time.

I finished up some special order pillows for The Rusty Bucket. They are both the same just with different color backings.

001

Here are the backing fabrics.

007

I also did a couple other pillows. The first one is a Sheep Pillow about 9 1/2” X 11” . I took it in my sons tree. We all have trees in the yard and this is the one he picked out and planted when we moved to our house 4 years ago. I used it for a prop today, the green color is amazing if you click on the picture.

010

The next one is a little “Summer Greetings” pillow, it measures 5 1/2” X 8”. It looks really bright in the tree, so I included another photo I took inside.

009026

Lastly is another special request for a friend. I love how it turned out.

019

That is about it so far. I have completed a couple Halloween stitcheries and still stuffing dolls off and on. I hope you guys are finding a little stitching time! Have a great weekend and a great Father’s Day!!!

Our Little Foxy Friend

We have a new friend that has been visiting us. I never have the camera ready to get a good shot of him and he is pretty fast once he spots us. I had to take this from an upstairs window so I was pretty far away.

foz

We are making sure we keep a close watch on little Louise when she goes out side because we are guessing the fox is showing up because it is hungry and probably thirsty with this heat wave and drought going on. He is in our yard a couple times a day. We live across from the woods and the other direction is a street that backs to a farm with a little pond. So he is probably using our yard as a cut through.

I have all of my patterns/stitcheries separated in notebooks by season and I seem to be missing one of my Halloween books. I no longer have the majority of them on the computer so I am a little sad. I am also missing a queen size quilt I had done years ago that needs to be quilted. I am hoping I will find them soon but it does not look good since I have cleaned up my room and they still haven’t surfaced. I am thinking they must be in the same place but I have no idea where that would be.

Anyway, I traced out some Halloween/Fall stitcheries and started on them last night. They are great! I also, with the help of Natalie, have sewn together 10 Elf doll bodies.  I turned them last night and will start stuffing tomorrow when I get some more stuffing. I have an order for 4 of them already so I thought I would get started. It seems to be everyone is wanting a matching boy and girl. They do look awfully cute that way.

004

I had not started Halloween dolls because I wasn’t sure which ones I was going to do but I think I have an idea now so maybe I will get some stitched up tomorrow also.

Off to rest up for work. I hope everyone is having a great weekend and also finding a little stitching time. Try to stay cool, or I guess warm depending on where you are!!

Busy Busy

Hi all, I am feeling better about all the struggles today. Have the AC fixed, the septic cleaned out (wish I could get that smell out of my nose), the rest can wait a little while, but the must do’s are accomplished.

I am currently washing my 5 loads of laundry  while doing a little doll body sewing.  I got side tracked and started messing with scrap baskets. How many does a girl need anyway?

002

So of course I have been folding instead of sewing. I love looking at and playing with the scraps as much as I do the bigger pieces of fabric.  I got rid of a ton of the scraps but I still need to thin them out or at least find another way to store them or heck maybe use them.

Alice had her last softball game last night. Well we thought it was her last. She played so well.

008

The team went for pizza after the game to eat and they received their trophies.  Here is a picture of her getting her trophy. She lost one coach because he got deployed to Afghanistan about a week ago. They are all great guys.

025

Here’s my proud girl. Her coach came over and told us he would love for Alice to play for the All-star team. We were so excited! So lots more practice until the game at the end of the month and then if they win more games to follow. Way to go Alice!!

026

Firecracker Kid Primitives is having a summer giveaway – I signed up and I hope you do!!

FKPlogo175Giveaway

Not 1, not 2, but 3 Prizes will be given away!  Photos of prizes to be revealed at a later date.  She will pick three winners on June 18 and announce those winners the following day.

Well I must go, I have laundry and a sewing machine calling my name!!

I hope you have a great day and also find a little stitching time!

Americana II Quilt

008

I finished stitching up the Americana special request quilt and it is off to the Rusty Bucket as we speak.  I also finished up this little table topper today and it is off to the Bucket also.

013

I could not resist putting this picture in. Louise has been following me around the house today. The ugly feet are mine, the cute little ones on the right are Louise’s!!

013

For all those who are aware of my troubles the last couple days I do have some good news. But first I will fill the others in. Our lawnmower died on Sunday, our septic/plumbing started acting up on Monday and on Tuesday night the air conditioning upstairs went out. The good news is the AC guys came out within half an hour of me calling this morning and it ended up being the pan under the unit in the attic was full of water and the system has an alarm that shuts itself off when the water gets to a certain point. All they did was empty out a couple buckets of water and clear the drain line and we now have AC. Thank God for alarms and for answering my prayers on that one. So we are only out 100 bucks. The septic people are coming out Friday and I will probably be crying when they leave because it is going to be about 300 bucks. Then we will see about the lawn mower. Neighbors beware, the weeds may be going a little crazy over here for a while.

I am sort of sad because the money is being spent on all this stuff and I had it saved up for the hubby for Father’s Day. I hate that.

Well off now that one drama is resolved to try and get some rest before work. I hope everyone is having a great day and finding a little stitching time. It is supposed to be 102 degrees here today so try to stay cool!!

Tis The Season Top

I finished it up last night. I changed the borders from what I had originally planned but I sort of knew that would happen. I am very pleased with it and cannot wait to quilt it. I forgot to mention “Tis the Season” is a pattern booklet by Australian designer Natalie Bird.

004

Two more days and the kids will be out of school. They are so excited. I have not quite decided if I am excited or not.  I know there will be lots more of this:

008009011

Our neighborhood pool has changed over to salt water and I love it. It feels so much better on the skin and this is the first year my son has not had a reaction to the pool water.

Tonight I will set up the sewing machine so I can quilt. I am backlogged pretty bad on the quilts and I have 3 already basted and ready to be quilted so I need to get started.

I hope you are having a great week and finding a little stitching time!

Tis the Season Blocks

Well, I am feeling better today. I had a rough go of it last week. Thank you for all of your thoughts and comments!! I surely needed them.

I got home from work this morning and decided to go ahead and finished piecing the Tis' the Season quilt blocks for the Stitch-A-Long I am a part of. They are all finished and ready to be put together in the quilt. Here they are:

tis the seasontis the season (4)tis the season (8)tis the season (3)tis the season (1)tis the season (11)tis the season (2)tis the season (5)tis the season (7)tis the season (6)tis the season (9)tis the season (10)

Here are the fabrics I will be using for the final border and the binding. I have not decided for sure if I am going to do the smaller border yet.

tis the season (12)

I am very pleased with how the blocks turned out. I did not go with what I wanted to originally use, which was homespuns. My husband helped me out, he is really good at picking out fabrics. We spent a large chunk of Saturday night pulling down fabrics to find the right ones. I hope to have the top pieced tonight!

Off to get some rest before the kids get home. I hope you had a great weekend and found a little stitching time!
